Minoxidil 5% Scalp Solution

Each millilitre contains 50 mg of minoxidil (5% w/v).

Apply 1 ml to the affected areas of the scalp twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Apply directly to a clean, completely dry scalp - not to the hair. Gently spread the solution across the affected area and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

Do not apply more than 2 ml in 24 hours. Using more will not produce faster or better results.

Allow the solution to dry completely before using styling products, wearing a hat or going to bed. Avoid washing the scalp for approximately four hours after application.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, broken skin and other areas of the body.

Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp to help stimulate susceptible hair follicles and extend the active growth phase of the hair cycle.

Regular use can help slow male-pattern hair loss and encourage hair growth in some men. Results vary, and regrowth cannot be guaranteed.

Minoxidil must be applied consistently. It may take two to four months before changes become noticeable, although some men may need to use it for longer.

Temporary increased hair shedding can occur during the first few weeks. This may happen as older hairs are replaced by hairs entering a new growth phase.

Continued use is required to maintain the benefit. If treatment is stopped, newly grown hair may be lost within approximately three to four months and the natural hair-loss process is likely to resume.

Minoxidil 5% scalp solution is intended for adult men with male-pattern hair loss. Do not use it on an inflamed, infected, irritated, painful, sunburnt or damaged scalp.

Common side effects can include scalp dryness, itching, redness, irritation, flaking and unwanted hair growth outside the treated area.

Stop using Minoxidil and seek medical advice if you experience:

• Chest pain or shortness of breath.
• A rapid or irregular heartbeat.
• Faintness or persistent dizziness.
• Sudden unexplained weight gain.
• Swollen hands, feet or ankles.
• Severe or persistent scalp irritation.
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.

Speak to a doctor before use if you have heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, blood-pressure problems or take medication for blood pressure.

Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp and works by stimulating susceptible hair follicles. It does not reduce dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Finasteride is a prescription tablet taken once daily. It works by reducing DHT, one of the principal causes of male-pattern hair loss.

Some men may be suitable for one treatment, while others may be advised to use both. The appropriate treatment will depend on the medical assessment and the prescribing clinician's decision.

Topical Minoxidil may be suitable for adult men experiencing gradual male-pattern thinning or hair loss, particularly around the crown and top of the scalp.

It may not be suitable if:

• Your hair loss is sudden, patchy or unexplained.
• You do not have a family history of hair loss.
• Your scalp is inflamed, infected, irritated or damaged.
• You have heart or blood-pressure problems.
• You take medication for high blood pressure.
• You have previously reacted to minoxidil or another ingredient in the solution.
• Your hair loss is connected to medication, illness, nutritional deficiency or another medical condition.
